The fear of missing out can be attributed to anxiety. Over 40 million adults in the U.S. (19.1%) have an anxiety disorder and approximately 7% of children aged 3-17 experience issues with anxiety each year. Most people develop symptoms before age 21. Anxiety is an extremely intense worry that persists and causes fear about everyday occurences. There are physical symptoms that can accompany anxiety such as rapid heart rate, sweating, fatigue and hyperventilation. Some individuals experience panic when thinking about the future and generally speaking, fear of the future and/or missing out on what may also be “the unknown” is a form of anxiety disorder that through therapy can improve over time.
